If you didn’t know the Indianapolis Colts just won Super Bowl XLI. If you also didn’t know (and shame – I say shame! – on you if you didn’t), David Letterman is from Indianapolis. So there was an obvious angle for monologue jokes. On the Thursday before the Super Bowl I submitted the following joke to the Late Show:
This Sunday is Super Bowl XLI between the Colts and the Bears.
Now that Peyton Manning is finally in the Super Bowl that means once again I’m Indiana’s biggest disappointment.
Unfortunately, Dave didn’t bite. Now once I submit a joke to the show I rarely ever submit it again, because I figure they passed on it once and if they really like it they may still use it down the road.
But I liked this joke so much that after the Colts won on Sunday I submitted a revised version of the same joke on Monday:
Congratulations to the Indianapolis Colts who won Super Bowl XLI last night.
So, now that Peyton Manning has won the Super Bowl I’m once again Indiana’s biggest disappointment.
This time, bingo, I got bingo! Dave closed is monologue on Monday’s Late Show (2/5/07) with this tweaked version of that joke:
So, now that the Colts have won the Super Bowl I’m once again Indianapolis’s biggest disappointment.

I knew that was a winner. Yeah.
